We have had the opportunity to stay at some great hotels, guesthouses and hostels during our travels so we wanted to start a list which we will update as we remember and travel more. These are arranged in country order, and we have no relationship with these properties – it is simply where we have stayed and liked.

Cambodia

Kampot – Sabay Beach : Riverside hotel with treehouse accommodation and a fantastic restaurant. Quite a way from Kampot town so requires a tuk tuk ride.

Siem Reap – Babel Guesthouse : Norwegian owned guesthouse with a strong focus on sustainable tourism. Extremely friendly and helpful.

India

Jaisalmer – Deepak Rest House : Fantastic little guesthouse in the heart of the fort which makes for excellent views. Ask to see room before confirming as there is a difference between them.

Laos

Luang Prabang – Villa Ban Phanluang : Beautiful and friendly little guesthouse with breakfast served on your balcony. Away from the centre a little so very quiet.

Vang Vieng – Maylyn Guesthouse : Not the friendliest of places but the view from the rooms is stunning. Located away from the main area with bike hire across the road.

Myanmar

Bagan – Morning Star Guesthouse : Lovely guesthouse run by Scottish expat and his family, with cheap e-bike hire

Yangon – Backpacker B&B : Basic accommodation in the centre of Yangon with a fantastic roof terrace and decent breakfast

Peru

Lima – Casa Wayra : Nice, simple little guesthouse in Miraflores but away from all the traffic craziness.

Arequipa – Casa de Avila : Hotel set around a beautiful garden for relaxation. Excellent breakfast.

Spain

Gran Canaria – Gold by Marina : We loved this place for a real sunny vacation vibe. Friendly team and great breakfast spread.

Thailand

Bangkok – Talakkia Boutique Hotel : Urban style rooms at very reasonable prices for Bangkok

Kanchanaburi – Apple’s Retreat : Accommodation with beautiful garden area and opportunity for Thai cooking classes.

Ayutthaya – Tamarind Guesthouse : Really nice little guesthouse in an old building, only a stone’s throw from some of the main sites.

United States

New York – Archer Hotel : Midtown hotel with stunning rooms and amazingly comfortable beds. The little sweet treat at turn down is a beautiful touch.

Chicago – Lincoln Hotel : Near Lincoln Park and offering good quality and style at a lower price than downtown.

Vietnam

Hanoi – Hanoi Old Quarter Hostel : Centrally located guesthouse with friendly and helpful team. Some rooms have lovely balconies where you can watch the world go by.

Hoi An – Quynh Chau Homestay : Probably one of the nicest guesthouses we have had the pleasure to stay in. The rooms are extremely comfortable and the breakfast is fantastic (especially the banana pancake)

Hue – Sala Homestay Hue : Charming guesthouse in the tourist centre of Hue, run by a lovely young family. Amazingly good value prices.
