After spending a couple of weeks with family over Christmas (and eating what feels like our own body weight in Turkey), it’s time for Andy and I to head off again. This time to South America.
We will be spending 3 months travelling around South America, starting with a month in Peru. Landing in Lima, we will make our way down the coast to Paracas, then up into the mountains to Arequipa and Cusco (for Machu Picchu), then finally to Lake Titikaka.
From there we cross the border into Bolivia, heading to La Paz (the highest capital city in the world) and the Uyuni salt flats. After Bolivia we cross the border into northern Chile for the Atacama desert.
Then we are in Argentina for a month. Starting in the north we will be working our way down through Salta, Cordoba, Buenos Aires, then Patagonia, before heading up to Mendoza to do some wine tasting. Then finally, it’s back into Chile again, with a detour to Easter Island.
After South America we fly to New Zealand (14 hours in economy 😱) and spend a month driving around the North and South islands, stopping off at Mt. Cook, Franz Josef, Christchurch, Queenstown, and Napier and Nelson for more wine tasting.
After New Zealand we fly to Australia for 3 weeks. Slowing the pace down a bit, we’ll be stopping off in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth (with a little trip to Rottnest Island to see the Quokkas).
Our itinerary after Australia is a bit vague at the moment. Currently we plan to fly to Azerbaijan, then work our way back home overland via Turkey, Ukraine, the Balkans.
